Frequently asked questions
Short answer - atleast two weeks before.
However, if you want to have fully completed brows before you go you'll need a minimum of 8 weeks. After the first session we have to wait a minimum of 6 weeks to do your touchup session. The touchup session should then be given atleast 2 weeks to pass the most critical point of healing. At two weeks healed it is safe to apply SPF to protect the brows but I still recommend wearing a hat/sunglasses to further protect the longevity and quality of your permanent brows.
Please take note of the following contradictions and requirements for brow procedures:
Pregnancy or Breastfeeding
Use of Accutane
Presence of open wounds, or any irritation on the area to be tattooed
Forehead Botox/Dysport must be administered at least two weeks before the appointment.
Discontinuation of chemical, acidic, abrasive, retinoid-type skincare products at least two weeks prior to the procedure.
Brow lamination, tinting, tweezing, waxing, etc. must be done atleast 2 weeks before appointment if done at all
Avoidance of sunburns or excessive sun exposure/tanning
Laser/facial type treatments for one month prior to your brow appointment
I generally dont accept clients who have previously had their eyebrow cosmetic tattooing/microblading somewhere else unless you are wanting to completely redo them in my own unique style and methods. In 90% of cases even if you feel that the previous work done has "faded out" there is usually still alot of pigment left in the skin and provides too many limitations for me create the best possible outcome for you. For me to take you on as a client we are usually looking at laser lightening methods which i perform myself in house with special pricing you wont find anywhere else. Please text well-lit photos of the current state of your brows without makeup directly to me 780-772-0799. Please review the Laser Lightening page; in most cases we will need to do some lightening of the previous work to give you the best brows possible. Laser is extremely non-invasive with little to no side effects while very effectively removing pigment which is why I've gone above and beyond to become a laser specialist and purchase a laser machine for my studio to serve my clients in the best methods available no matter what the situation may be. Laser tattoo removal sessions at other places can be anywhere from $150-$250 per session.
Microblading is a highly sought-after procedure due to its perceived natural appearance. However, when executed on the wrong client, the healed outcome can appear artificial and is not as "semi-permanent" as some inexperienced artists might suggest. As someone who has been trained in both microblading and hairstroke brows using a machine method, and many years experience, I can confidently say that tattooing is a superior method.
One reason is that the tattoo machine produces a puncture wound, which is easier for the skin to heal compared to a slice wound that microblading creates. The resulting long-term effects of microblading can leave something to be desired and often result in permanent scarring. For these reasons, among others, microblading is being phased out of the permanent makeup industry.
Furthermore, microblading can lead to a blurry, pinkish result, and can be painful. It can also be painfully obvious where real hair ends and the microblading begins. As with ANY cosmetic procedure it can easily be executed incorrectly by inexperienced technicians. This is why most cosmetic tattoo horror stories come from artists who are only trained in microblading and offer this method to every client. However, it is worth noting that all cosmetic tattoo methods are customizable, and a soft and subtle effect can still be achieved with a hairstroke, powder or combo brow.
In conclusion, as someone who has your best interest in mind, I suggest that you keep these things in mind if you are considering microblading.
Over a decade ago, individuals interested in cosmetic tattoos lacked access to the natural-looking techniques that are currently available. They would often resort to traditional body tattoo artists for their needs. The eyebrow tattoos of yesteryear were characterized by dark, discolored, and misshapen brows, which are not representative of today's cosmetic tattooing. However, during that time, any cosmetic tattoo was better than none. Presently, we have evolved significantly, allowing us to customize results as per client preferences. Whether you're seeking a natural, bold, full, thin, wispy, defined, light, or dark look, it's achievable with modern cosmetic tattoo techniques. While there are artists who can still produce dark, thin, "old school" brows, there are also clients who desire them. The beauty of modern PMU is that there's an artist for every preference. Personally, I prefer creating the most natural-looking brows that are never intimidating, even when freshly done. As a result, I've built my business around creating custom natural brows.
It's important to note that all forms of brow tattooing or microblading are a permanent procedure. However, to maintain their optimal appearance, they necessitate periodic touch-ups every 1-3 years, contingent on your skin type and lifestyle. Without these touch-ups, the tattooed area may fade unevenly, resulting in an undesirable appearance. The fading occurs due to various elements that the face is exposed to, such as sun exposure, skincare products, exfoliation, etc. It's worth noting that younger skin may require more frequent touch-ups since the skin layers regenerate at a faster rate, while mature skin can typically go longer periods before requiring a refresh.
Although brow tattoos can create a desirable brow shape, it's important to groom any hair that grows outside the intended outline. After a few weeks of healing, options such as threading, waxing or tweezing are available to maintain the shape. The advantage is that the tattoo acts as a guide for removing any unwanted hairs, ensuring the brows remain flawless. Brow razors are readily accessible in most drugstores, and I prefer using them for hair removal, as long as caution and practice are exercised.
Permanent eyebrows almost always heal cool. That means they become a little (or a lot) more ashy 1-2 weeks into healing. Certain skin types are even more prone to this. It is totally normal for the brows to look warmer when first done and they will cool as the healing process commences. The brows also look dark at first because the pigment is basically "on top" Once it has healed it is "healed under the skin" so the intensity is much less and much more natural looking result.
It's of utmost importance to select an experienced and qualified artist while seeking these services. Unfortunately, the cosmetic tattoo industry currently lacks regulation, and numerous artists offering such services have only completed a 2-3 day certification course. I take pride in my extensive experience and ongoing education, which enables me to deliver exceptional quality work that heals well and ages gracefully.
